PROFILE

PUI-PT Center for Public Health Innovation (CPHI) at Udayana University, established in 2013 based on the Rector’s Decree of Udayana University No. 09a/UN14.2/KP/2013, aims to become a leading institution in education, research, and community service in the field of public health. Over time, CPHI has grown into a center for innovative research and consulting services, addressing current public health challenges such as maternal and child health, nutrition, health management, HIV/AIDS, environmental health, new emerging diseases, and One Health. CPHI’s commitment to continuous innovation is reflected in its use of mixed-methods, multi-methods, and participatory approaches in its studies. In applying context-specific implementation research, CPHI integrates information technology to ensure its innovations are both relevant and impactful. In 2022, through a research group strengthening grant from Udayana University, CPHI launched a public health innovation knowledge hub (https://inovasikesehatan.net/) as a platform for disseminating knowledge from its studies and research.

CPHI’s research also focuses on often “forgotten” populations, such as marginalized groups, youth, and the elderly, through multidisciplinary approaches. In its mission to improve public health, CPHI adopts various innovative methods, including operational and implementation research. These innovative approaches include the use of app-based and web-based data collection, social network analysis, Most Significant Change (MSC), storytelling, policy workshops, and social media. Moreover, CPHI prioritizes innovative dissemination strategies such as web-based platforms, policy briefs, and action-oriented research.

CPHI has consistently demonstrated its commitment to addressing diverse public health issues through various research projects and collaborations with both international and local partners. Notable examples include implementation research on clinical guidelines for the Chikungunya outbreak in Jakarta and Bali; public perception studies on COVID-19 booster vaccines supported by Sinovac Biotech Ltd; and technical support for stunting reduction efforts in Bali and Nusa Tenggara in collaboration with the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) and the Indonesian Rectors Forum, supported by Matching Fund (MF) grants. CPHI also participates in innovative programs such as the PRIA Bali Study, in partnership with the Kirby Institute UNSW, which is the first HIV-negative cohort study among key populations in Indonesia, and the WASH and inclusive tourism projects in Mandalika and Labuan Bajo with international partners such as the International Water Centre (IWC) and Griffith University. Through these various projects, CPHI has proven itself as an innovative and solution-oriented research center, playing a crucial role in addressing public health challenges in Indonesia.
