RWB Denpasar Research Team Holds Training of Trainers to Strengthen Participatory Action Research Implementation
Denpasar, 14 June 2026 – The RWB (Relational Wellbeing) Denpasar Research Team, a collaborative initiative between the Center for Public Health Innovation (CPHI), Kolaborasi Bumi, and the Master's Program in Environmental Science, Udayana University, successfully conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) as an important preparatory step for the implementation of a Participatory Action Research (PAR) project.
The training brought together researchers and facilitators who will work closely with young people as co-researchers in a study exploring the relationship between climate change and youth relational wellbeing. Through the PAR approach, young people are positioned not merely as research participants, but as active partners who contribute to identifying issues, formulating research questions, generating evidence, and developing collective actions.
The primary objective of the ToT was to strengthen the research team's capacity and establish a shared understanding of participatory, inclusive, and context-sensitive research practices. Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in discussions on the concept of Relational Wellbeing (RWB), the principles of Participatory Action Research, and a range of participatory methods that will be applied during the study, including lived experience mapping, photovoice, story circles, and other collaborative facilitation techniques.
In addition to enhancing methodological skills, the training also served as a platform to foster a common commitment to creating a safe and inclusive research environment where the voices and lived experiences of young people are valued and translated into meaningful action.
The collaboration between CPHI, Kolaborasi Bumi, and the Master's Program in Environmental Science at Udayana University reflects a multidisciplinary effort to better understand the social, environmental, health, and wellbeing dimensions of climate change affecting young people in Indonesia.
Through this Training of Trainers, the RWB Denpasar Research Team hopes to lay a strong foundation for a research process that is collaborative, equitable, and grounded in the lived realities of youth. Ultimately, the initiative aims to empower young people as agents of change and contribute to building more climate-resilient communities.
