CPHI Udayana University Strengthens International Research Capacity through Grant Writing and Grant Management Training

Jimbaran, Bali – The Center for Public Health Innovation (CPHI) at Udayana University successfully organized the Training and Mentoring in Grant Writing and Grant Management for International Grants, an initiative aimed at strengthening institutional capacity in accessing and managing international research funding.

Held at the CPHI Laboratory, Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Building, Udayana University, the program brought together the internal CPHI team and consultants involved in research development, program implementation, and grant management. The training was designed as an interactive and practice-oriented program, combining expert presentations, experience sharing, discussions, and proposal development workshops.

As international funding opportunities continue to expand across the fields of health, research, education, and social development, the ability to prepare competitive grant proposals has become increasingly important. The program therefore focused not only on proposal writing but also on understanding donor priorities, interpreting calls for proposals, developing realistic budgets, building strategic partnerships, and managing grants in accordance with international standards.

The event featured distinguished speakers with extensive experience in international research and grant management, including Katrina Lawson and Prof. Raph Hamers. They shared valuable insights on research management, building sustainable research ecosystems, and strategies for increasing the success rate of international grant applications. In addition, workshop sessions facilitated by the CPHI team encouraged participants to identify funding opportunities relevant to Udayana University and develop practical approaches for future proposal development.

Through this initiative, participants were expected to enhance their understanding of the international funding landscape, improve their ability to develop high-quality grant proposals, and strengthen their knowledge of professional and accountable grant management practices. The program also aimed to produce several strategic outputs, including a roadmap of international grant opportunities, a list of priority funding schemes, the development of an internal grant toolkit, and initial drafts of grant proposals for further refinement.

The Chair of CPHI Udayana University emphasized that this program reflects the institution's commitment to enhancing its competitiveness at both the national and international levels. By strengthening the capacity of researchers and program managers in grant writing and grant management, Udayana University aims to expand global research collaborations and generate innovative programs that contribute meaningfully to public health and community development.
